National 24 hour Champion Andy Wilkinson was guest of honour at the 2011 awards presentation on Sunday 15th Jan 2012.
Andy and his wife Jill kindly travelled down for the weekend to be guests of honour after Andy set an astonishing 541 miles record in the ESCA 24 hour time trial in June.
A well attended lunch was treated to some fascinating insights from both Andy and Jill on not only how he set his new record but also what it takes to prepare for such events. In particular they both explained the importance of strong and committed support, which MC Richard Blackmore and others of the audience confirmed from their own experience.
Some light hearted sparring with the GS Stella winning team members Dave Shepherd, Andy Payne, Tony Reeves and Ben Fielden was well received before Ann Human officiated the awards presentation with Andy Wilkinson presenting the trophies.
Lewes Wanderers claimed most of the silverware with Nick Dwyer in particular receiving recognition for his fantastic efforts in 2011.
Outgoing ESCA president Mick Kilby ably handed over the Chains of Office to Jim Hollands of Rye and District Wheelers, with both recalling the roots and history of the association in their speeches.
Special awards were given to the ESCA 24 winners including Rye Wheelers Bronwen Ewing who was the fastest lady in the event.
Photos from the event, including Esther Carpenter and Mike Hayler, the 24 hour organisers extraordinaire.
