Chris McNamara (Pedal Heaven) adds a hill climb win to his recent run of time trial successes.
A grim morning for all the riders but not for the reason that you might expect. Two slurry lorries kept making return trips on the course both before and during the event, spilling raw sewage all over the road and also holding up some competitors. The stench was appalling and the effect was akin to riding up an open sewer. |

Huge congratulations to Steve Kane (Brighton Excelsior CC) as he adds the 50 title to the 100 and the 25 titles that he won earlier in the season. Steve captures not only the Southern Radio Cup but also makes absolutely sure of the 2014 Best All Rounder (Long Distance) title.
The rapidly improving Tamar Vanderhaas (Lewes Wanderers CC) was the fastest lady, setting a new SCA record of 2:14:22. Geoff Smith (Eastbourne Rovers CC) takes the Vets title. |

Steve Kane (Brighton Excelsior CC) returns to winning ways by capturing the SCCU and the SCA 100 titles with a time of 3:54:45.
Peter Harrison (G.S. Henley) and Tom Glandfield were the other two riders to record sub 4 hour rides. 12 non-finishers out of 69 starters attest to the challenges faced in this blue ribband event. |

The top three stamp their authority on this event
Nice conditions for this event with light winds. The alternative course of G50/10 was in use due to the ever-present roadworks on G25/53 and G50/53.. Only four riders beat the 2 hour mark. Steve Kane did remarkably well to win the title, given that he crashed off his bike at the Bramber roundabout. |

Conall Yates (In-Gear Quickvit) takes the Championship title with a determined ride of 1:05:37 in what can only be described as terrible conditions. Steve Kane (Brighton Excelsior CC) and Graeme Stirzaker (...a3crg) take the other medal places. Mike O'Gorman (Worthing Excelsior CC) makes it three out of three veteran SCA titles for the season so far. Brighton Excelsior CC take the team prize. A heartfelt well done to all those who brave the elements.

Huge congratulations to Pete Tadros on winning the treble of Medium Gear, Bling and Hilly events.
A particular mention also goes to Zak Corum-Haines of VC Jubilee who took 31 seconds off the junior course record which had stood since 2006. And it's well worth watching Iain Brogden's entertaining VIDEO of the course. |

Despite the lane restrictions on the A264 which caused yesterday's SCCU 10 to be aborted mid-event this competition went ahead as planned. Excellent marshalling on the coned sections proved to be a major success and all were delighted to have a crack in excellent weather at this increasingly unavailable course.

Another bright and sunny morning which was not quite as cold as Saturday but not that far off either.
Steve Kane's fine performance won him the Boniface Cup. Yesterday's winner Sean Scott (In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp) had to settle for 3rd place today. Phil Allen (Lewes Wanderers) was another to show fine consistency with a 4th place in the 10 followed by another 4th place today. Brighton Excelsior took the team prize and the Lee Memorial Shield, beating Lewes Wanderers, who took the Dave Henty Cup, by just under a minute. Mike O'Gorman's win in the vets gained him the Horry Helmsley Cup, and followed on from yesterday's win in the vets' 10. Arthur Venables (...a3crg) was the fastest junior. |

Sean Scott, the 2013 ITU Duathlon World Champion, and riding for In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp RT, emerged on top of a tightly fought contest. On what was a bright and sunny, but extremely chilly, morning his time of 21:26 put him 5 seconds ahead of Brighton Excelsior's Steve Kane. Simon McNamara (South Downs Bikes) claimed third spot, just edging out Phil Allen (Lewes Wanderers CC) by a single second. Alice Lethbridge (Kingston Wheelers) got the better of Tamar Vanderhaas (Lewes Wanderers CC) to win the ladies' event.

Another day to dampen the enthusiasm but Pete Morris of Team ASL360 wasn't deterred and recorded a mighty fine win in 54:13. David Pollard (In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp) and Matt Woods (Eastbourne Rovers) followed him home. Lizzy Brama (Brighton Mitre CC) competed a fine weekend by winning the ladies' event, and Oliver Chapman (Hastings & St Leonards CC) took the juniors' award.

There were 35 non starters due to the rain, including the appropriately named Ken Dry of Eastbourne Rovers!
Congratulations to Chris McNamara as he follows up his win two days ago at the Worthing Excelsior club 10 by claiming the main prize at the ESCA Spring 10. He was the only rider to break the 22 minute mark and did so in style with a 21:18. Lizzy Brama of Brighton Mitre recorded an impressive 24:07 to claim the ladies prize, and Elliot Brown of Eastbourne Rovers took the junior prize. Eastbourne Rovers beat Lewes Wanderers (who were clearly missing their injured main man, Nick Dwyer) by over a minute for the team prize. |

Pete Tadros (In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp RT) was a class apart this morning as he recorded his sixth win in this event. His 57:30 put him 1:34 ahead of 2nd place man Steve Kane of Brighton Excelsior (59:04). According to event organiser Robin Johnson this was the only time there have been two finishers under the hour around this very sporting course.
Dan McCarthy (VC Meudon) was third. Liam Yates (Catford Banks Equipe) was fourth, just 57 seconds faster than his uncle Chris. The team award went to Crawley Wheelers remarkably given that one of their riders had a mishap at the bottom of the final climb and had to finish by running up the hill. Tamar Vanderhaas (Lewes Wanderers CC) was the fastest lady. |

East Grinstead's Steve Dennis continues his excellent form by taking another win on the classic sporting 41 mile event. Returning to its traditional Good Friday slot, this classic event was held under typically springlike cool and bright conditions.
As a previous winner of the event, Dennis was off last as scratch man and set a blistering pace to finish in 1:37:12. Dave Pollard of In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp was second with 1:40:10 and Nick Malins of 4T + Velo Club third on 1:41:17. Only two ladies rode on the day and with Worthing Excelsior's Nicole Patterson Lett an unfortunate DNF, Katerina Avramides of Brighton Mitre scooped the Ladies prize with a time of 2:09:07. |

A stiff northerly wind gave problems on the outward leg and quite a few riders appeared to struggle. Despite those conditions a few riders still managed to clock a pb so well done to them. The leaderboard was close indeed with 8 riders going inside 21 minutes. VeloRefined Aerosmiths took three of the top four positions with Kevin Tye taking the main prize. Bronwen Ewing of Trainsharp RT was the fastest lady, just pipping Lesley Walkling of VC St. Raphael by 2 seconds.

2014 ESCA 2up event showed just what can be achieved when youth and experience join forces - The East Grinstead legend Steve Dennis turned more than a few heads today when he rode in Blue, Yellow and Red to team up with the phenomenon that is Brighton Excelsior’s Steve Kane – a force to be reckoned with! Lewes Wanderers take the 2up trophy courtesy of Rob Rollings and Tom Glandfield, and a variety of Eastbourne Rovers pairings take six out of 12 of prizes on offer …
Unfortunately though it was more of a two down than two up for the Lewes Wanderers’ star pairing Nick Dwyer and Rob Pelham. From A&E Rob reported: “Nick went down on a pothole and I was unable to avoid him. I need stitches to arm and Nick has broken clavicle. |

Excellent weather for this early season event sees a large field take to the road. Pete Tadros (In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp) wins the event again, and captures the fastest hill prime en route. Close behind in joint second place were Steve Kane (Brighton Excelsior CC) and Pete Morris (Team ASL360). 19 year old Ashley Dennis of Banks/Catford Equipe CC was fourth.
The womens' event was won by Tamar Vanderhaas (Lewes Wanderers CC), and the junior title was taken by Elliot Brown (Eastbourne Rovers CC). Eastbourne Rovers win the team title. Particular commiserations go to Richard Gifford who had the misfortune to suffer a complete disc wheel disintegration. |
